Dick Wilken – AUE – Dick gave a brief overview of the group and encouraged those who retired after 1997 to join in.

RETIREMENT BOARD - Joe Flynn said the Board has had a large number of meetings,   probably 14 this month alone.  Several closed session meetings, usually to react to the lawsuits that have been filed.  Their attorneys advise the Board in closed session.  Also worked on trying to consolidate the committees, there will be two meetings a month. One on financial matters and the other for the usual business of the fund.  This month they have made changes in the meetings.  Moved the normal meeting this Friday 7/15 to 7/29.  At the meeting on the 15th the Board will be discussing the ongoing attorney/client matter, and the information that the SEC and Audit Committee are seeking.  Joe has talked with other Board members and advised them of our group.  They have been very interested in meeting with us.  New Board President Peter Preovolos may stop by today after General Cardenas finishes his presentation.  Possibly next month Mr. Preovolos and other Board members will be able to speak with our group.

Joe reported Paul Barnett, Asst. CERS Administrator, had fatal heart attack yesterday morning.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE – Virginia passed out the latest edition of the “Newsflash”.  She spoke to the Retirement Board and the City Council regarding more cooperation between both.  She also spoke to the City Council about receivership.  Virginia will let the membership know, through the website, when future meetings will be.

OTHER BUSINESS

Nominating Committee – President, Vice President (Adam Saling position) and 2 Board members are up for election.  Charles Buchanan and John Casey will be on the committee from the Board of Directors.  The general members will appoint a third person today.  Once the Committee is formed, they will elect a chair.  Bob Headland was selected by the membership in attendance to be on the Committee.
