CATERING

Dora Garcia reported that Ranch Catering would no longer be working Mondays and Tuesdays and that she had procured the services of Souper Bowl Caterers to provide today’s lunch of chicken breast, rice, green beans, salad, roll, butter, cake and beverage for $9.00 on a trial basis. However future similar lunches by

Souper Bowl would cost between $10 and $11.  Dora said she got quotes from several caterers to provide the two-entrée hot lunch similar to Ranch Catering and she was quoted prices from $13.25 to $19.00.

Nancy asked for a show of hands on several questions.  A large majority of the members present wanted lunch served at the monthly meeting.  A majority  said that a sandwich/salad lunch would be as acceptable as a hot lunch.  A majority felt that a maximum of $11.00 would be an acceptable cost.

Dora will investigate further with these parameters in mind.

BYLAWS REVISIONS

Adam Saling reviewed the proposed bylaws revisions necessary to create an Advocacy Committee.  Nancy informed the membership that the Board of Directors had added an additional bylaws revision to make the President of the Association the official spokesperson when necessary unless that responsibility is delegated to another person on a case-by-case basis.

The revisions to the bylaws were passed unanimously.

ADVOCACY COMMITTEE REPORT

Nancy reported that, in anticipation of an affirmative vote on the bylaws changes, an Advocacy Committee had already been formed consisting of Joe Flynn (chair), Virginia Silverman, John Casey, Patricia Karnes and Alice Anglim.

Joe Flynn stated that the first responsibility of the committee was to monitor Retirement Board  and sub-committee meetings, City Council and committee meetings and to write reports on pertinent items.  These reports would be put on the association website.

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS

Past Association president Dave Wood swore in newly elected Association officers: Joan Lundy-Boyd, secretary, Jim Foley, Virginia Silverman and Ruth Ann Hageman, new Board of Directors members.

Nancy led the membership in thanking outgoing officers and Board members Bob Cain, Alice Anglim and Sharon Beach.

OTHER BUSINESS

Joe Flynn said there were brochures available regarding SDSU’s College of Extended Learning- Lifelong Learning Program including class offerings, field trips and costs.

Joe also reminded the members that he was now officially recognized as running for the retiree representative to the new Retirement Board to be seated in April.  He has one opponent- a retired police officer.  Joe has prepared a brochure outlining his qualifications and platform and encouraged a vote for him as the candidate endorsed by the Association  He urged the members to contact as many as possible of the non-association member retirees (about 4,000 people)  to solicit a vote for him.

Nancy informed the membership that the Board had approved an expenditure of $1,000 to cover the cost of printing and mailing a brochure to all retirees (5,000+)

advocating Joe’s election to the Retirement Board.
