GENERAL MEMBER’S MEETING
OCTOBER 12, 2004
President Nancy Acevedo called the meeting to order at 11:00 AM and asked distinguished veteran Shorty Beights to lead the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. Shorty joined the Navy three times (one regular and two reserves)
Due to his height Shorty wasn’t cut out for sea duty what with ships short “racks” (bunks) and low overheads (ceilings.) Shorty was stationed aboard the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor in 1941 but was called back stateside for reassignment two weeks before December 7.
Nancy thanked this month’s volunteer greeters Forrest and Ila Rustad.

Nancy reported that all items recommended by the committee were being implemented by the City Manager.
Alice Anglim reminded the membership that their November retirement check will include the “thirteenth check” as well as three years of Corbett Settlement monies. This may have an adverse effect on state and federal income taxes owed next April unless withholding is increased. W-4 and State withholding forms are available at the sign-in desk.
Nancy recommended that the Association back a single candidate to fill the “retired employee” slot on the new Retirement Board to be elected in 2005. She stated that she and Joe Flynn were interested in being that candidate. She asked Vice President Adam Saling to conduct an election. Adam asked if there was anyone else in the room interested in being the retired employee member on the Retirement Board. There being none, the vote was between Nancy and Joe with Joe receiving the most votes.
Nancy informed the membership that copies of Larry Sterling’s book “Leading at a Higher Level” was available free to all members in attendance.
Nancy said that long-time attendees John and Elsie Brennan had moved to Concord, Ca. She has their address if anyone would like to write to them.
