Nancy Acevedo called the meeting to order at 10:45 a.m. Charles Buchanan led the membership in the
Pledge of Allegiance. APPROVAL OF MINUTESDue
to the absence of Secretary Bob Cain, the minutes of the May and June
meetings will be approved in July. TREASURER’S REPORTTreasurer
Sylvia Tatum reported a balance in the Operating Fund on May 1, 2004
of $2,715.37. Income for May
totaled $1,276.81 and expenses were $1,724.45.
Operating fund balance on May 31, 2004 was $2,276.73. Reserve accounts totaled $10,216.28 for a grand
total of $12,484.01. NEW MEMBERS AND BIRTHDAYSTwo
new members introduced themselves, and those celebrating birthdays in
June were congratulated. RETIREE ISSUES TASK FORCEDave
Crow said it has been determined that Corbett settlements may be paid
to estates. The Retirement Office
is working out details on how this will be implemented, and training
its staff. The Attorney’s Office has ruled that health
benefits are vested, depending on the MOU in the year of retirement. The Retirement Board approved a two percent
COLA effective July 1, 2004. HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE – Nothing to report. WEB SITE DEVELOPMENTJohn
Tsiknas was thanked for his work on the development of the web site. He, in turn, thanked Karen Anderson and Delores
Ruiz for putting together the E-mail addresses. MEMBERSHIPCharles
Buchanan said more than 50 employees attended a pre-retirement seminar
on June 3, and some who were in the DROP program expressed an interest
in joining SDREA. PENSION REFORM COMMITTEE Nancy said this committee meets every Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. They are scheduled to vote today on their recommendations to the City Council. STATUS OF LAWSUITNancy said the Court Settlement and Fairness Hearing is scheduled for July 7, 2004 at10
a.m. in Dept. 67. NOMINATING COMMITTEENancy noted that two Board Members and one General Member will be appointed to this committee in July. There are vacancies for Secretary, Treasurer and three Board positions, due to the resignation of Judy Folsom and the expiration of two Board terms. She asked that anyone interested in running for these positions contact the Nominating Committee when it is appointed. STATUS OF RETIREMENT FUNDS As of June 7, 2004 the balance was $3.178 billion, up $57 million from last month. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 a.m. Adam Saling introduced Jan Beaton who summarized the Open Enrollment process for health insurance and then turned the program over to speakers from Kaiser, Pacific Care and Care Counsel. Valerie VanDeweghe explained how the City determined health plans and benefits. All speakers responded to questions from the membership following their presentations.
