CITY OF SAN DIEGO

RETIRED EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION

GENERAL MEMBER’S MEETING

MAY 11, 2004

President Nancy Acevedo called the meeting to order at 11:00 AM and asked distinguished veteran Tom Lamb Jr. to lead the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Tom joined the Navy in San Diego in 1942 and went to boot camp in Balboa Park!  He remembers swimming training in the Lily Pond. (Presumably the lilies had been removed!)  Tom had a ship sunk out from under him in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines and later served on the Seaplane Tender “Pine Island.”  Tom worked for the City for over 30 years.
