Nancy reported that Dave Crow told her that Larry Grissom assured him that a letter would go out soon to all retirees regarding the 2004 13th check and the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Corbett Settlement payments.  It is anticipated that there will sufficient 2004 fiscal year undistributed earnings to make all four payments.

HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

John Casey said there was nothing new to report.  The next meeting of the committee will be October 15, 2004.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

NEWSLETTER:  Joe Flynn reported that there were about 30 returned newsletters over the last two mailing where bad addresses were requested to be returned by the Post Office.  This will help in updating the Association mailing list.

Joe provided copies of a draft letter to Val VanDeweghe  asking assistance in urging Kaiser Permanente to send a knowledgeable representative to next year’s health insurance seminar held by the Association.  The Board approved a motion to send the letter over Nancy’s signature.

Joe reported receiving an e-mail from Rosie Wiseman  suggesting that if “opinion” pieces were to be published in the Newsletter that opposing opinions be given “equal time.”  After discussion it was decided that an “OPINIONS” page will be set up on the Association web site where all views may be freely expressed.  This site will be advertised in the Newsletter.

MEMBERSHIP:   Charles Buchanan suggested that the Association’s letter of invitation to new retirees to join be updated to include mention of our new web site.

Charles will continue to check with the Retirement Office to insure that the Association’s invite letter is included in the new retiree’s packet that they send out.

ACTIVE EMPLOYEES LIAISON:  Alice Anglim reported that the City Manager plans to cut 174 positions by retirements and attrition, with no expected lay-offs.

WEB SITE:  John Tsiknas reported that he is getting several requests for the web site members only section password per week.  He has written a program that will allow him to check requestor’s names against the Association membership list.

John said there have been several requests for a list of city-owned properties that have been put up as collateral in the lawsuit settlement.  He will research and put a list on the web site.

John suggested that it is time the Association purchased its own web site software now that we are up and running.  Cost will be about $200 which is available in the approved 2004 web site budget.

ADVOCACY POLICY COMMITTEE:  In the absence of Chairman Adam Saling, discussion on the final report of the committee was tabled until next month.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE:  Don Robbins reported that he had seven members approach him with an interest in serving on the Board.

HOLIDAY LUNCHEON:  Tom Ham’s has been reserved through a $500 deposit for December 9, 2004.  The Board approved a cost of $17.00 per meal, which will mean a subsidy of about 25 cents per meal from the treasury.

read it.
